Environmental Safety Quality Measures
Hospitals are complex systems with multiple professional disciplines providing
a vast array of services for patients with different illnesses. Because of
the complexity, annual safety training is necessary to ensure the safety and
wellbeing of patients and staff. The Joint
Commission on Accreditation for Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and/or state and local agencies monitor staff
training records periodically to verify that training is taking place and to
determine what effect it is having on patient and staff safety.
St. Mary's Hospital Medical Center provides annual safety training on the following topic areas:
- blood product safety
- communication, patient identification and verification
- healthcare associated infection
- infant and child abduction prevention
- infusion pump and clinical alarm safety
- lifting and transferring patients
- medication safety
- preventing patient falls
- restraints and seclusion
- surgical fires
- ventilator safety
