St. Mary’s newly renovated ED includes the following features:

  • New ambulance garages to accommodate today’s larger ambulances. Several of the newer ambulances were too large to fit in the previous ambulance garage.
  • Negative pressure rooms to contain communicable diseases and improve disaster preparedness.
  • Rooms that can be easily changed from First Care (non urgent care) rooms to emergency rooms in the event of a disaster.
  • Radiology (x-ray) services in the department.
  • All private patient rooms, with continued in-room registration capability.
  • Larger patient rooms for patient comfort and to accommodate current technology.
  • Improved patient flow that will protect patient privacy.
  • Improved family support rooms.
  • Improved security features.
  • Children’s play area and food service area in reception area.

The new 32,000 square foot department now has 26 treatment rooms, 10 more than were available in the previous facility

Nurses’ Station:
This area includes:

  • A Medication Station.
  • A place where X-rays can be viewed.
  • A Charting Station.
  • A Rescue Squad Radio Receiving Station (glassed in area on the left).
  • An In-Department Lab Tests Station.

 


Resuscitation Rooms
These rooms are for patients with life threatening events.

  • Larger for more staff and equipment.
  • Closest rooms to ambulance garage, helipad and surgery.
  • Emergency equipment centrally located in hallway behind the room.
  • The monitor at the head of the patient bed displays the patient’s heart rate and the oxygen content of their blood. This information can also be viewed at the nurses’ station.
  • St. Mary’s has recently been certified as a Level III Trauma Center and a Chest Pain Center.

  • Be used to register patients-- right in the room!
  • Let medical personnel view x-rays.
  • Let the staff see the location and status of all patients in the department, including
    • The patient’s age and diagnosis,
    • Whether the patient is in First Care or Emergency
    • Status of lab, x-ray, meds, IV’s
    • The assigned doctor’s and nurse’s names
